What has changed you the most in the past year?

Episode Three with Amador Hermosillo

ree

This week on The Confession Book, I’m joined by Amador Hermosillo, a friend, creative collaborator, and someone who reminds me that the questions we ask ourselves can be just as important as the answers we find.

He also reminds me of something I read recently… “enlightenment is a perspective of openness — it changes how the world appears. Conflict is the driving force of change, it’s how you approach it that determines your success.” In many ways, what Amador shares feels a lot like that: a reminder that it’s the openness to change and the trust in your instincts that shape how gently or how deeply it transforms you.

As always, we begin with one question: “What has changed you the most in the past year?”

From the Conversation

Amador: I remember so clearly one morning, a few friends and I went hiking during rainy season. Everything was so green and lush, just absolutely beautiful. I was standing there thinking: This is where my dad rode horseback, where my grandparents grew up… this is my ancestors’ land.I don’t think I ever appreciated it that deeply until I slowed down enough to really feel it — to feel more rooted in that place.

Michelle: I have goosebumps just visualizing it. And it’s so true, especially when you’ve lived in a place like New York City, it’s easy to think everything important exists right around you. So when you step outside of that, you open up to what else is possible, what else exists.

Amador: I’ve always wondered: Who am I, or who would I have been, if I’d grown up there? There was always something in me that wanted to experience that version of myself. But for so long, I was scared, wondering, How would I do it? Where would I live? There were always reasons not to follow what was calling me.

After the Conversation

What is your greatest extravagance?I would not call myself extravagant, but I like spending on things that make me feel good. Skincare to pamper myself, a piece of clothing that feels just right, or a new food I have never tried before. It is not about luxury, it is about small pleasures that spark joy and keep life interesting.

What do you most value in your friends?Depth and honesty. I value friends who can hold space for the real stuff, whether it is laughter, ambition, or uncertainty, and who are not afraid to be transparent.

What is the last...

Song you listened to: Party 4 U by Charli XCX

Book you read: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

Show you watched: Severance

A Few Last Thoughts…

What if the biggest transformations in our lives are less about force and more about softening and to allowing them to unfurl?

New chapters don’t always begin at the edge of a cliff or in chaos. Though most of the time they probably do. But every so often, change slips in softly… through stillness, a change of scenery, or a deep breath that reminds you to come back to yourself.

I think it happens when we stop asking what we should be doing and start listening for what we’re already becoming.
